Multidisciplinary scientific conference – “Exploring movement”

As the bicentenary of the birth of the Burgundian scientist Etienne-Jules Marey (1830-1904) approaches, the echo of his scientific work continues to arouse admiration, curiosity and interest.

Thanks to ingenious instruments and equipment, and with the help of his collaborators and mechanics, he managed to capture movement and thus study the functions of life in the movement that properly belongs to them.

At the dawn of the 20th century, the countless applications of the innovations created contributed to the rise of modernity, in sectors as multiple and unexpected as medicine, physiology, aviation, photography, cinema, the arts, sports training and physical education.

By offering, for more than 30 years, an integrated and quantified approach to the study of normal and pathological movement, the CAPS Inserm U1093 laboratory at the University of Burgundy has naturally oriented its research themes in the footsteps of its illustrious predecessor.

The Marey Institute, created in Dijon in 2015, offers the most cutting-edge scientific tools to optimize and re-educate motor function, in response to health, well-being and sports performance needs.

Also, with the support of prestigious partners, this conference aims to continue to explore and highlight the scientific interest and modernity of a work which never ceases to reveal its secrets.

Over 2 and a half days, the program will include conferences by renowned guests, which will be associated with oral and poster presentations selected after a call to communicate defined around the four axes in which the participants will have to subscribe.

Communication axes:

Axis 1 - Historical and epistemological: E.J. Marey, an explorer in tune with his times

Axis 2 - Methodological and technological: Movement analysis for performance and training

Axis 3 - Neurophysiological and experimental: Motor control and embodied cognition

Axis 4 - Art and science of movement: Science through images
